Canadian comedy award winners, Slap Happy, reunite on Globus Theatre stage
Much like with all the popular boy bands of the 90s, a reunion is taking place on Globus Theatre’s stage on Saturday, May 27th. The comedy giants Slap Happy are returning to Bobcaygeon for one night only, promising to bring down the house with their side-splitting improvisational style of comedy, according to a media release.
This three-time Canadian Comedy Award winning troupe is considered to be among the best in the world, having performed on stages in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Amsterdam and Belgium.
“Slap Happy were a regular fixture in early seasons of Globus before the four parted ways to have excellent individual careers on the comedy circuit and on TV. For our 20th anniversary season, we asked the four founding members Sandy Jobin Bevans, Dave Pearce, Kerry Griffin, and Tabetha Wells to re-unite and they said “yes”– they’re excited, we’re excited and you…won’t want to miss it,” says Sarah Quick, Globus artistic director
If the name Sandy Jobin Bevans sounds familiar, it may be because this Second City veteran and 9-time Canadian Comedy award winner is the HGTV host of Great Home Giveaway; host of Deal With It on the W Network; a star of YTVs Life With Boys and co-host, with his wife Kylee, of Canadian game show Just Like Mom and Dad.
Another recognizable face is Kerry Griffin, who has been performing in the Toronto improv scene for over 20 years. A past member of the mainstage cast at Second City Toronto, he has been an instructor and director at Second City, Bad Dog Theatre and The Social Capital. Kerry has appeared in over 100 television and radio commercials as well as appearances on numerous television shows such as Schitt’s Creek (CBC), The Expanse (Prime), Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), Designated Survivor (ABC) and Baroness Von Sketch Show (CBC).
Slap Happy’s lone female member (and in that respect, clearly the funniest) is Tabetha Wells, a former member of Second City’s Touring Company (Toronto). Now living in Chicago, Tabetha has worked for many years with Second City as a director and instructor.
And, rounding out the foursome, is Dave Pearce. No stranger to Globus Theatre, Dave’s past Globus credits include Meet My Sister and Making a Move as well as countless murder mysteries. Dave is a former senior writer on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight and was a regular contributor to The Beaverton and CBC Radio’s The Irrelevant Show. Dave moved from Toronto to Bobcaygeon 8 years ago, a move that many feel was in anticipation of this moment.
