Bobcaygeon’s Lavish Locks a cut above

Kim Murphy never thought she’d own her own business at 30. But when the opportunity came up to grab the space behind the Daylight Diner in Bobcaygeon and open Lavish Locks, she didn’t hesitate. Once she made the move to her own shop, many of her regular hair clients from her previous place of employment came with her, says Murphy.

“It’s going great. It’s a cute little shop with three chairs,” she says of the six-month old business.

Her mother, Tracey, works with her for two days a week doing walk-ins while Kim focuses more on colours.

“I get to be creative, which is so much fun.”

Her favourite part of her job is “seeing how much better people feel about themselves when they like their hair. People come in not feeling like themselves, or they’re in need of a change. It’s nice to think I can make a positive impact or difference for someone.”
