Dr. Bert Lauwers (left), chair of the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team (FHT), welcomes technician Erica and Kaylie, coordinator – patient service centres, with FHT Executive Director, Mike Perry, to the medical centre in Fenelon.

Residents of Fenelon Falls and the surrounding area can once again access laboratory services where they live. The blood lab is reopening its Fenelon Falls location at the Fenelon Medical Centre, 205 Francis Street East, offering walk-in service Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while administrative systems are being finalized. Online and telephone appointments will be coming soon.

The location is open to all patients. Services include blood work, electrocardiograms (ECGs), and Holter monitor fittings.

The City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team worked to help identify and secure appropriate space within the Fenelon Medical Centre, ensuring that diagnostic services could return to the community. The family health team serves more than 27,000 rostered patients across the region.

“Timely access to lab services is essential to coordinated, team-based family health care,” said Dr. Bert Lauwers, chair of the board of the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team, in a press release.

“Our patients told us that travelling for routine blood work was a real barrier. We are thrilled to welcome the lab back to Fenelon. Our operations manager Danielle VanGennip and finance manager, Krissy Hickson, also played key roles,” added Mike Perry, executive director.

Local resident Mike Barkwell, was second to attend the re-opened clinic. “It’s so good for my health having the lab here locally again. I was very pleased with the kind and gentle care I received,” he said.
