Amazing Habitat Race raises over $21,000

The fifth annual Amazing Habitat Race took place on Saturday, September 15.  The Habitat for Humanity Peterborough and Kawartha Region event was held to raise funds for homebuilding efforts in Kawartha Lakes.

It was announced at the event that over $21,000  was raised with support from local sponsors and team fundraising efforts. One hundred per cent of event proceeds will directly fund construction costs for two Habitat homes currently being built on Hamilton St. in Lindsay, helping two more local families into safe, decent and affordable housing.

The Amazing Habitat Race saw 15 teams competing in an all-out foot race around Lindsay, starting and finishing the race at Victoria Park. The Amazing Race teams covered the downtown core of Lindsay stopping at 14 locations to compete in some creative challenges designed by sponsors at their business locations.  Some challenges were physical, some mental in nature, but all were stimulating and fun.

Prizes were awarded to the highest fundraising team – the Bats Out of Heaven, the fastest team – The Last Responders and the best costumes—the First Responders. During the race, there was fun for the whole family at Victoria Park which included Live Music with the Harry Peterson Band & face painting.
