A Place Called Home announces 2024 youth virtual art project
A Place Called Home is very excited to announce the 2024 Youth Virtual Art Project, sponsored by the Kawartha Art Gallery and Team Joy in memory of Jessica Joy.
The youth virtual art project is in honour of Jessica’s memory and will help to increase homeless awareness among youth so that they can gain a better understanding of the issues of homelessness and where to get support.
“This unique virtual project will give Kawartha Lakes youth an opportunity to express their artistic views on homelessness in our community and selected artists will have their artwork exhibited in a virtual gallery on the APCH website,” says Jen Lopinski, fund development coordinator at APCH.
The Kawartha Art Gallery, a sponsor of the youth virtual art project, will be hosting the call for submissions on their website. The call for submissions is now open and closes November 30. This project is open to all Kawartha Lakes youth aged 14-24. Cash prizes will be awarded: 1st place: $200.00, 2nd place: $125.00, 3rd place $75.00. Selected submissions will be exhibited in a unique virtual gallery located on APCH’s website.
Please visit the Kawartha Art Gallery’s website for more details and to make a submission: kawarthagallery.com/artist-resources.
APCH wishes to wholeheartedly thank its incredible sponsors, the Kawartha Art Gallery and Team Joy, Jami Joy, Sales Rep. – Royale Town & Country Inc., Brokerage, and its planning committee with special thanks to Christina Dedes who will be creating the virtual shelter, as this project would not be possible without their invaluable contributions.
A Place Called Home is the only emergency shelter that serves families and adults in the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton. Last year the organization held the Mural Art Project which resulted in a beautiful mural being painted in the main hallway of the shelter.
