On Aug 24, over 150 riders came out to participate in the 21st annual Kawartha Lakes Classic Cycling Tour and enjoy an amazing day of cycling to support A Place Called Home (APCH).

Riders from all over the province came out to show their support and helped raise a total of $40,000 for APCH.

This year’s Kawartha Lakes Classic offered three new road routes (50 km, 100 km, 160 km) and two new Trail routes (20 km and 40 km) all expertly designed by members of the Kawartha Cycling Club. Rest stops equipped with water and snacks were available for each route.

A delicious hot pasta lunch and Caesar salad was provided by our title sponsor, Boston Pizza – Lindsay. Westerby Entertainment provided inspiring music throughout the event. Kawartha Wholesale Bakery donated some of their delicious cinnamon buns and apple fritters for our participant grab bags. The Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham gave our out-of-town riders a 10% discount on their hotel stay and The Grove Theatre provided 2 complimentary tickets to a mainstage production.

“We would like to give our whole-hearted thanks to all of our sponsors including Boston Pizza – Lindsay, Kawartha Business Equipment, Russell West Optometry, Weedman, Mosquito Hero, Economy Wheels Lindsay, Staples & Swain Professional Corp., Maxama Protection Services and many others, our Planning Committee, our dedicated team of over 50 volunteers, all of the wonderful riders that came out to ride, and lastly to everyone who donated to the event to receive a Biemme event jersey or otherwise,” says Jen Lopinski, fund development coordinator of APCH. “Without your tremendous support, the Kawartha Lakes Classic Cycling Tour would not be possible. Thank you for your commitment to supporting those experiencing homelessness and the most vulnerable in our community.”

The Kawartha Lakes Classic Cycling Tour is A Place Called Home’s largest fundraiser of the year. A Place Called Home is the only emergency shelter in the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton, providing emergency shelter and outreach services to those who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
