Being kind to animals includes spaying, neutering says local Humane Society

From December 9 to 20, the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes is asking the public to donate kitty litter during their second annual ’12
Days of Litter’ donation drive. The goal for 2019 is 150 units of litter.

“Litter is our most needed item. This donation drive will help us re-stock our supply for the new year. We are looking for both newspaper based litter and the unscented nonclumping kinds,” says Executive Director, Henny Venus. Purchasing and donating litter is something a lot of donors don’t like to do, due to the weight.

“We realize how heavy litter is. This campaign allows people to purchase litter and leave it at the (participating) store. Shelter staff picks up the purchased litter directly from the store, so the donor doesn’t have to lift it,” adds Courtney Bryans, shelter manager.

HSKL is encouraging the public to shop local this holiday season and purchase litter from retailers who are participating in this drive. For those who like to donate litter, or any other items directly to the shelter, HSKL’s hours can be found at hskl.ca or by calling 705-878-4618.

Participating retailers include: TSC, Trent Pet, Global Pet Foods, PetValu (Lindsay and Bobcaygeon locations), Giant Tiger, Victor Feeds Horse & Hound, Reid’s ValuMart and Foodland (Little Britain and Bobcaygeon locations).
