Expanded city services coming soon as mayor outlines details

Playgrounds will re-open with no restrictions.

Mayor Andy Letham had a lengthy and detailed list of municipal services and facilities that will be ramping up their services over the next two to six weeks.

The city is moving into a “level 3” re-opening on Friday, following the provincial guidelines.

“This re-opening needs to be done properly,” Letham said, “being mindful that the city cannot end the year with the deficit it is currently carrying.”

Eleven unresolved community cases of COVID-19 in city

There are 11 unresolved COVID-19 cases in Kawartha Lakes, according to the local health unit, all of whom are self-isolating in their homes.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit data shows 171 confirmed cases total for Kawartha Lakes, minus the 141 cases considered ‘resolved.’ There are also 19 COVID-19-related deaths tied to confirmed cases in the community.

Lindsay’s Dvine Laboratories retools to make hand sanitizer to fight COVID-19

A Kawartha Lakes-based company, Dvine Laboratories in Lindsay, has retooled their manufacturing to begin producing hand sanitizer – up to one million bottles a month if needed.

Three and a half weeks ago, owner of Dvine Laboratories, Mike Meathrel, couldn’t see the point of making the change from their usual e-liquids for e-cigarettes, among other products.
