Sarah Quick stars as Shirley Valentine, playing at Globus Theatre Aug. 13-23.
Sarah Quick returns as the star of Willy Russell’s classic play—Shirley Valentine—on August 13 at Globus Theatre. This uplifting comedy about life-changing adventure is back by popular demand.
Shirley Valentine is a hilarious, heart-wrenching and uplifting story, full of Willy Russell’s British humour and memorable one-liners. It’s no wonder why it’s become an instant fan-favourite. Both new and returning audience members are sure to enjoy Sarah Quick’s memorable performance as Shirley, a Liverpuldian housewife whose interests include dreaming of travel, wine, and talking to the wall.
Globus first produced Shirley Valentine in 2013 and, after a survey of patrons, it was brought back during their pandemic “season within reason” in 2021 as the most requested show. In 2023, Sarah Quick starred in Shirley Valentine for the Upper Canada Playhouse’s 40th anniversary season. Now, in their 22nd season, the beloved production is back at Globus Theatre.
“Willy Russell’s Shirley Valentine is a classic piece of literature made famous by an amazing movie in the 80s. It is a show that people travel across Ontario to see and a show that people enjoy seeing again and again, because it resonates with you in a different way, depending on the stage of life you’re at. We have audience members that have seen it several times and are coming again and we have so many new audiences coming through our doors at the moment, so we wanted to make sure they saw it too,” said Quick in a press release.
Not only is Sarah Quick the star of this beloved production, she’s also a co-founder and artistic director at Globus. She’s already graced the stage this season playing multiple roles in the season opener Desperate to be Doris, directing Norm Foster’s Come Down From Up River, and writing the murder-mystery dinner theatre Murder at the Blue Moon Saloon.
It’s not too late to purchase tickets to Shirley Valentine. They’re available online at globustheatre.com or through the box office 705 738 2037.
