Obituary For Susan Catherine Sears (née Yates)

Passed away peacefully at Caressant Care McLaughlin on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Susan was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Ronald Sears (2013), with whom she shared a loving and devoted marriage. She was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Florence Yates, and by her son, Ronnie Sears.

Loving mother of Janie Alexander (Russell) and Christopher Sears (Jessica), and cherished stepmother of Cheryl Prince (John), Trevor Sears (Tricia), and Ronnie Sears (Kelly and her husband Mark). Cherished grandmother of James (Cara), Sarah, Joshua, Amanda, Justin, William, Benjamin, Ronni, and Cameron. Dear twin brother Michael Yates (Pat), and brother John Yates (Lori).

Susan will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Born in Shrewsbury, England, and raised in the Innerkip/Woodstock area of Ontario, Susan graduated from the Chatham

General Hospital School of Nursing at the age of 22 and dedicated an incredible 57 years to the nursing profession. As a registered nurse at Ross Memorial Hospital, she cared deeply for her patients and colleagues alike. It was through the hospital that she met Ron, who later asked her out after meeting again at Janie’s birthday party — the beginning of a lifelong partnership.

Susan had a love for dogs, dog walks with Elgar, travel, and especially returning home to England. Above all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life was held at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street North, Lindsay, on Tuesday, May 26th from 7:00–9:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Donations may be made online or by cheque through the Mackey Funeral Home.
