Called home on Sunday, February 15, 2026 into the presence of the Lord that he loved and served; Richard was in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Alice Mae Thistle (Smith) and the late Catherine Ann Thistle (Allan, nee Morrison). Loving father of Robert Thistle, Sharon (Grant Morden), Jennifer (Brian Burke) and predeceased by Mark (Dianna Moss). Dad was continually and joyfully involved in the lives of his grandchildren Joy (Miguel Meza), Sean Thistle, Daniel Morden (Ruth-Anne), Stephen Morden (Laura), Ruth Morden, Sarah Morden, Jeffrey Burke, Julie (Matthew Hayden) and Heidi Burke and his eight great-grandchildren. Also remembered by Catherine’s children and grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters. Richard faithfully pastored at Lively Baptist Church, Essex Baptist Church, Fairview Baptist Church and Port Bolster Baptist Church. He seldom enjoyed a meaningful conversation without relating it to that person’s spiritual wellbeing. Following his years of pastoral ministry Richard enjoyed over 40 years as a professional carpenter. His family and friends were frequently blessed by his willingness and ability to undertake many projects. Special thank you to the staff of caring professionals at Ross Memorial who guided us through his final days. Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 22 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay and from 10:00 to time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23 at Fairview Baptist Church, 130 Colborne Street West, Lindsay. Private interment at Pine Hills Cemetery in Toronto. Memorial donations to Heritage Christian School, 159 Colborne Street West, Lindsay would be appreciated by the family and can be made by cheque to Heritage Christian School through Mackey Funeral Home, or the school directly.
