Obituary For Robert "Ian" Pepper

With heavy hearts, the family of Robert “Ian” Pepper announces his peaceful passing at home on November 18, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by those he loved most, his family. Born on April 28, 1940, in Toronto to Jack and Beatrice Pepper, Ian grew into a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In 1962, he married the love of his life and soulmate, Patricia “Pat” Pepper, with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership and joy. He was the loving father of Kelly Pepper and Laurie O’Neill (David), and the cherished Grandpa of Tamara (Andrew), Troy, Jessica (Ben), Jamie (Adam), and Jennae (Russell). Ian was also a proud Great-Grandpa to TJ and Kaelyn.

Ian’s professional life was marked by dedication, leadership, and integrity. Beginning his career as an Insurance Adjuster in 1958, he founded his own firm a decade later, growing it to include eight offices serving communities in central Ontario. Until his retirement in 2014, he held numerous respected roles: Licensed Adjuster of all Lines, elected Chairman of both the Ontario and Manitoba branches of the Canadian Independent Adjuster Association (CIAA), President of the Ontario Adjusting Association, National CIAA Disaster Chairman looking after disasters in Toronto, Woodstock, Barrie, etc., President of the National CIAA, United Way Co-Chair, and a 33 Degree Mason and Shriner.

Beyond his career, Ian was deeply involved in community life. He served on the Boards of the Curling Club, Kinsmen Club, K40 Club, and was an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Ian and Pat are forever grateful for their lifelong friends. A man of many passions, Ian loved golfing, fishing, boating, spending time at his beloved Kinmount log cabin, and—above all—being with his family. Selfless, inspiring, and deeply admired, Ian was truly the heart of his family. His presence will be forever remembered and profoundly missed. Honouring his final wishes, a private service will be held for Ian at St. Paul’s Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation or Community Care Kawartha Lakes – Hospice Services. A special thank you to Sherry-Anne Smith, Jennifer Wilson, and all of those involved in Ian’s care. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mackey Funeral Home (705-328-2721).
