Obituary For Robert (Bob) Fitch

Passed away peacefully at the Ross Memorial Hospital on February 10, 2026, just shy of his 95th birthday. Bob was born in Simcoe on April 6, 1931, the only child of Herbert and Mary Fitch (nee Beaumont). He had a successful career in the financial services sector with Household Finance Corporation. Bob was an avid fisher, sportsman, card player and pool shark. He contributed to the life of his community through long-standing involvement with the Lions Club (serving as President of the Lindsay chapter in 1963-64) and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Lindsay. He was an elder at St. Andrew’s for 57 years and chaired the Board of Directors for 16 consecutive years. He was a founding member of a local parental association that eventually came to be known as Community Living, an organization dedicated to the support of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. He leaves behind his two sons, Paul (Diana Sheridan) and Greg (Paula Cayley), and his long-time friend, Janet Carwardine. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Shirley, and his much-loved daughter, Susan, who inspired him to become involved with the advocacy work of Community Living. He is mourned by his nephews and nieces, David (Pauline), Janet, Brian (Robin), Scott (Jill), and Christine (Greg). The family would like to convey its gratitude for the exceptional care Bob received from Dr. Marc Chayer and the nurses and staff at the Ross. Visitation was held at Mackey Funeral Home in Lindsay on March 6, 2026 between 7 and 9 p.m. A Celebration of Life was held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Lindsay on March 7, 2026 at 11 a.m. A light lunch and refreshments will be served in the church hall after the service. A private family burial will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Living – Trent Highlands, City of Kawartha Lakes; St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church; or the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation.
