Obituary For Phyllis Clara "Jean" Short (née Stone)
Heaven has gained a precious angel.Born October 8, 1939, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2025, at Fairview Lodge, Whitby.
Dearly loved mother of Debbie Drinkwalter of Peterborough, Donna Drinkwalter of Brockville. Predeceased by her husband Ross Short and sons; Darryl Drinkwalter and Steven Short. Cherished grandmother to six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Loved and cared for by nephew Bill Short and his wife Susan, special “Grams” to Lori Roberts – Hoard of Thunder Bay. Jean is predeceased by her brother, Ross Stone.
Jean was born and raised on the family farm in Seagrave and was a life-long resident of the area. She easily made friends wherever she went with her kind, welcoming nature and her big smile. Jean was a woman of deep Christian faith and an active member of the Seagrave United Church, always there to lend a helping hand. She was a longstanding member of the Port Perry Snowmobile Club and the Cruisin’ Classic Car Club where she made many friends and even more fond memories. Unsurprisingly, during her time at Fairview Lodge, Jean quickly made friends with the staff and other residents by joining the many activities and committees offered there, including the Resident’s Council and the Food Committee. Jean will be remembered by staff as a bright light of positivity, always reminding them of things to be grateful for. The family sincerely thanks the staff of Yorkshire Place, Fairview Lodge for providing Jean with exceptional care. A special thank you to nurses Chenduri and Leeann, PSW’s George and Mya, physiotherapist Brandon, recreation therapist Alanna and Dr. Libby for their dedication, kindness, friendship and support. Much gratitude to Reverend Richard Parker for his special visits with Jean while she was at Fairview Lodge.
A memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at Seagrave United Church on Saturday May 9, 2026, at 1:00PM. Private interment for both Jean and Ross will take place at Pleasant Point Cemetery, Little Britain following the memorial.
Memorial Donations can be made to Seagrave United Church General Fund by cheque, cash or e-transfer to () or to Pleasant Point Cemetery.
