Obituary For Paul Dickson

A letter from Dr. Paul Dickson

March 8,1944 - June 24,2026

If you’re reading this, I’m Dead. I’m sorry to announce my passing. Some said “its about time”, others said “I’ll miss him, he was fun to be around”.

I died peacefully at home. I leave behind my loving wife Angie, daughters Dana Dickson (Stewart Bond), Jennifer Gray (Rob), grandsons Jackson and David, step children Jasmine (Adrianne) and Jesse (Lauren) Wright, sister-in-law Tina Herzick (late Ron). I did not have many other relatives - 2 step brothers that I met briefly at my father’s funeral. I didn’t have any brothers or sisters or aunts or uncles but grew up with my grandparents, Helen and Arnott Jackson. They really helped me a lot.

I was born at Wellesley Hospital in Toronto. Schools attended were John Wanless Public School, Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute and University of Toronto for a degree in Physiology and Biochemistry, then went into Medicine at UofT. I interned at Toronto East General Hospital (now Michael Garron Hospital). Lived in Toronto - Cranbrooke Avenue, Fairlawn Avenue, Bedford Park and Keewatin then moved to Fenelon Falls (July 1971) living on Short Street. I set up a medical practice with Dr. Bill Graham, a great doctor, mentor and friend. In 1974, I bought a cottage on Balsam Lake and lived on Lamb’s Lane. Most recently, I resided on South Bayou Rd Hickory Beach.

My daughter Jenn, will likely do a slide show. At the celebration of death, you will see pictures of me with my new white dentures. These were done by Steve Kerr, Minden (705-286-4888). Thanks Steve.

After I am cremated, my ashes will be spread at all the places that I lived, plus the 8th hole at the Augusta National Golf Club. The final ashes will go in a Kraft Peanut Butter jar on the mantle. My passion was Golf. My good long distance friend, Doug Stephens, said to me at the age 13, “I think you’ll enjoy golf. But first you’re going to hit balls and balls at the driving range. When you’re good enough that you won’t embarrass me, I’ll take you golfing” My first round was at Don Valley and I shot 99. Thank you Doug. Except for the last four years, I only scored over 100 six times.

In 2001, I was lucky enough to win 2 passes for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Masters Golf Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia. This brought happiness to me and to many others. However, in 2022, the Masters sent me an email saying “no Longer would Master tickets be willed to anyone other than a wedded spouse”, even though we had been living together for 13 years. Angie and I had to get married. We were married on August 6th, 2022.

I’ve had 5 holes in one. My first was at Don Valley in October 1963. The others were at Western Trent Golf Club #9, Olivers Nest Lindsay, Santee National SC #17, and Bigwin Island #12. For my hole in one in South Carolina, I received a letter from the Governor. A great promotion. It didn’t help the Governor. He lost the fall election.

I made a New Years Resolution that I would everyday make someone laugh. My Bucket List is Empty! Thanks to all of my friends and relatives (especially Angie) that got me through this life.

I’ve enjoyed the ride.

NO FLOWERS - a waste of money. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Fenelon Falls or War Amps or any charity of your choice.

Visitation will be held Thursday July 9th from 7:00-9:00 pm at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & TRIBUTE CENTRE, 8 Princes' St. W., Fenelon Falls, 705-887-3130. . A Celebration of Life for Paul will be held Friday July 10th at 11:00 am at the Fenelon Community Centre, 27 Veterans Way, Fenelon Falls with a reception to follow.
