With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nazarenu “Sam” Sammut, on July 3 2026, at the age of 92. Sam passed peacefully in Lindsay, while holding the hand of a loved one. Sam will be deeply missed by his closest friend and devoted companion, Garry Rutherford, as well as the Christie family who guided and influenced his early years in Canada and beyond. In his younger years, he adored his farm on Valentia Road. When he sold the farm, and moved to Lindsay, Sam could often be found scootering around town, enjoying a coffee at Burger King, tending to his beautiful gardens, greeting his neighbours, caring for his beloved pets, or soaking up the warm sunshine during summer heat waves. Born in Malta, Sam immigrated to Canada in 1953. He remained closely connected to his dear Maltese family throughout his life. They will miss him deeply and cherish the many memories they shared. Our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Caressant Care McLaughlin Road for the compassionate and graceful care they provided to Sam over the past nine months. Their kindness, dedication, and support brought comfort to both Sam and those who loved him. An extra special thank you is extended to Sandy Webber, who truly went above and beyond to ensure Sam’s safety, comfort, and dignity as he aged. Her unwavering care, advocacy, and kindness meant more than words can express. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sam’s memory may be made, by cheque through Mackey Funeral Home, to Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes or the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes. As per Sam’s request, no formal service will be held. In Sam’s own words, “Thank you, thank you, and a thank you.” A simple phrase that perfectly reflects his grateful heart.
