Obituaries

Marie Edney, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away with her daughters at her side on September 29, 2025. She was born on August 22, 1929 to Hedley and Viola Wood. Marie grew up at Maplewood Orchards, in the Rouge Valley, Ontario with her four sisters.

Marie met her husband Byron Edney, at high school and on September 20, 2025 the high school sweethearts celebrated their 73 rd wedding anniversary. Byron and Marie’s life together began in Agincourt in a little house built by Marie’s father and Byron. Byron farmed and Marie commuted to Toronto to work at the CBC for many years. Marie and Byron moved to Scottsville, New York in 1964 and then to Marion, Ohio in 1970.

The cottage on Cameron Lake, Fenelon Falls was the centre of many happy times with extended family always bringing smiles to her face. Marie loved to lead the sing alongs at cottage campfires.

Upon retirement to Sable Cross Farms in Bobcaygeon, Ontario, Marie and Byron travelled extensively. They took two World Tours on the Queen Elizabeth 2; many wine tours through Europe, the Middle East and Australia; and countless family trips with her children and grandchildren. Marie loved to read and discuss books and current events. Her beautiful needle work adorns many of our homes.

Marie is survived by her husband Byron; her daughters Lindsay Marie; Sydney Viola; grandchildren Byrne Marie (Shawn); Travis Byron; and great-grandson Sacha Byron. Her sisters Shirley Risebrough, Beryl McGee, Beverley Rinneard (deceased) and Elizabeth Smith were her best friends to this day. She is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Marie was a sincerely kind and gentle woman full of wisdom and truly knew how to enjoy life.

She will be deeply missed by all and remembered for her classic style and manner, endless love and acceptance, witty humour and ever-welcoming smile. She is loved.

Arrangements have been entrusted to THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOME – MONK CHAPEL. A Memorial Service was held for Marie on Friday, October 10th at 1:00 PM at Fairbairn Church, Kawartha Settlers’ Village, Bobcaygeon.
