Obituary For Maria Davey (née Elburg)

DAVEY, Maria 1929-2025, Maria Davey (née Elburg) passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025 at St. Joseph's Villa in Dundas, Ontario, in her 97th year. She was born on October 11, 1929 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Maria was predeceased by her parents William and Constance and in-laws Gladwin and Myrtle, brother Bill (Doreen), her husband Harold (2019)to whom she was married for 72 years. She was also predeceased by brother in-law Tom and sister in-law Madeline, brother in-law John and sister in-law Doreen as well as her daughters Beverley (2002), Dorothy(2010) and grandson Steven (2000). She leaves behind brother in-law Everett ( Gloria), two children, daughter Sylvia and son Bruce (Lynne) as well as grandchildren Rhonda, Andrew, Hilary, Meredith, Angus, Shannon and Joel. She leaves great-grand children Fia, Aiden, Rachel, Elise, Evangeline and Rowan. Maria was born in Saskatoon and the family eventually moved to the Lindsay. ON area. In time she met and married Harold. They farmed and resided there until the mid-fifties. Then they bought a new home in the village of Columbus, north of Oshawa. Mom and dad immediately joined Columbus Community United Church where as described by church friend Mary B., they were decades-long members of the Columbus Church Choir and for Maria the Columbus UCW. If there was any church event, Maria and Harold would be working at it; dinners, strawberry suppers, yard sales, concerts, yard work, caring for others, etc. They did it all and they did it with energy and a smile. At home Maria loved to work in the flower gardens. Canning the veggie garden's bounty was an annual enjoyable tradition and much of what was grown was shared with the community. Maria was also an accomplished seamstress and could repair with precision as well as make anything from full suits, dresses, pleated skirts, etc. She derived a great deal of satisfaction from all of these accomplishments. She and Harold loved to travel in their later years and covered many places around the globe, with a fondness for cruising. In the mid '80's they relocated to Prince Albert, ON where they remained until 2019. After Harold passed, Mom moved to Westshore Village in Port Perry then eventually to St Joseph's Villa in Dundas, ON. There she remained with her wonderful family of staff on Trillium Lane. These devoted people were challenged many times, but responded with grace, love and empathy. From all of us, thank you. Mom has now gone to join her much missed husband Harold. She no longer has to endure the many health issues which can come from aging. You have earned this peace Mom. God bless and thank you for your love. Cremation has taken place and as per her wishes, a small service to celebrate her life will take place with family at a later date.
