Obituary For James Wesley Terrill
James Wesley Terrill passed peacefully with his sons at his side on June 2, 2025 at Ross Memorial Hospital. Born in Lindsay on June 4, 1932, at that same hospital.
Jim was the best father anyone could ask for as his sons James Chris and Peter Grant would attest. Survived by his loving sister Catherine and John Leggett, devoted sister-in-law Judy, and many nieces and nephews who regularly visited Jim and Shirley out west.
Jim was predeceased by his brother Paul, his sister Elizabeth (Gord MacDuffee), and parents Grant and Bertha. He will always be remembered as a great father, loving uncle, and a perfect gentleman.
When Jim left the farm to attend Queens University, he met the love of his life, Shirley. After graduating, the young couple was married on June 22, 1957, and moved west where Jim pursued a career in Alberta’s Oil and Gas Industry. With a successful career underway, Jim and Shirley gave birth to two boys, James Chris and Peter Grant. They traveled to Ontario frequently to enjoy time with their wonderful families and greatly enjoyed life out west, especially the frequent visits from all of the relatives.
Jim and Shirley were active in the church and The Calgary Winter Club where they played many sports. Jim enjoyed building furniture which Shirley used as the canvas for her folk art. They enjoyed skiing and traveling the world, and their favourite destination was Maui as they returned there year after year. They also travelled to Barbados where Jim found the home of his ancestors to support his extensive genealogy research. After retirement, they moved to Nanaimo near great friends Marg and Warren to marvel every day in the west coast scenery and climate. After a storybook life and nearly 65 years of marriage, when his beloved Shirley passed away, Jim finally returned to Lindsay.
Jim enjoyed seeing places he remembered as a young lad and was very busy with visits and invitations from his wonderful family who were so glad he had moved closer.
Please join us in remembrance on Saturday October 18th, 2025, at Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, in Lindsay, Ontario at 12:30 p.m. Private interment at Linden Valley Friends Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate your time to friends and family, and give them all great big hugs, as that is what Jim would have wanted.
