Obituary For Irmgard Alwine Habib (née Berger)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irmgard, peacefully in her sleep with family by her side on Sunday, February 22, 2026. She was predeceased by her husband Samual Habib (2017). She leaves behind her daughters, Andrea, Janice and Lesley (Jay), grandchildren Allison (Brad), Kevin (Alyssa), Christopher (Mel), beloved great granddaughter, Leah, her brother Norbert (Margot) and nephew Patrick in Germany as well as many cousins. She is fondly remembered by her nephews Donny, Bobby and Rob, and niece Catherine, predeceased by nephew James (2005). Irmgard was born in the small village of Raschewitz in Germany the daughter of Meta and Arthur Berger. Following the end of the war at age 22 she booked passage by ship and immigrated to Canada by herself. She learned English and worked at the Lebanese embassy which ultimately led her to meet Sam. They married in 1959 and their daughters were then born in 1961, 1962 and 1966. During this time Sam and 3 friends, built cottages on Drag Lake in Haliburton where they spent every summer. It was her favourite place to be. She adored her role as Oma when Allison, Kevin and Christopher were born and bloomed with pride to be a great Omie to Leah, who brought her immense joy! Irmgard was a long-time member of St. Timothy Anglican Church and was involved with the Chancel Guild and St. Andrew’s group making long time friends. Irmgard raised her family in Toronto and lived at the same home until moving to a retirement home in Lindsay in Nov. 2021. She had wonderful neighbours she was very fond of and who helped her out at home especially after Sam passed away. A service will be held at St. Timothy Anglican Church, 100 Old Orchard Grove, Toronto, on March 19, 2026, at 12 noon with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Guide Dogs of Canada, CNIB or St. Timothy Anglican Church. Special thanks to the staff of Adelaide Place in Lindsay, where she spent her final years in their thriving senior community where she made many new friends, the doctors at Ross Memorial Hospital and all the nurses for their care and compassion in her final weeks.
