Passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in his 90th year at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario. Born March 26, 1936 in Toronto, Ontario. Herb will be forever loved and missed by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Kathy. Beloved father of Stephen Goldie (Brenda) and Michael Goldie. Adored grandfather of Jessica, Kyle (Chloe), Scott (Sanja), Stuart (Lisa) and Jacob (Jess). Cherished great grandfather of Keira, Kaitlyn, Addison, Zoey, Callen and Tatum. Herb will be missed dearly by his loving extended family Jim, Shireen, Lorne, Anne and Jack. Dearest, Lynn, Gavin (Hailey), Sydney and good friend John. Herb's life journey encompassed a multitude of interests and activities. Sports was a passion - first as an athlete in high school where he excelled in basketball and pole vaulting. Coaching, working out, training, exercising, watching Brock Minor Hockey were activities that continued on throughout Herb’s life. During his career in education he was a teacher, a District Consultant, a Coordinator for Gifted Programs and a Principal with the Toronto Board School Board. Herb’s avid interest in genetics led to successes as an owner and breeder of Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, cattle and sheep. Amongst the highlights of his involvement with Thoroughbreds was as a double Sovereign Award Winner of Champion Sprinter and Filly, Scotzanna in 1995. With Simmental cattle, he, along with a partner sent eight polled heifers to Denmark in 1999 for their breeding program. He showed and won events at The Royal with both cattle and horses. He also directed his knowledge of genetics to gardening - growing over 60 varieties of tomatoes. Herb revelled in the joy and happiness of watching his Great-Grandchildren start on their life adventures. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care Herb received from the doctors and nurses at Ross Memorial Hospital. In keeping with Herb’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025 between the hours of 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Sunderland Royal Canadian Legion (104 River Street, Sunderland, Ontario).
