Obituary For George Mervin "Merv" Flaherty
With loved ones by his side, and in the comfort of his home, George Mervin "Merv" Flaherty passed on Sunday March 30, 2025. He was 82 years young, and still full of character and charisma.
Born on the family farm in Kinmount, the youngest of ten, Merv grew up in Cabbagetown, Toronto earning the nickname Flash. He had many friends and was the life of every party, the most memorable dancer on the floor. He met his future wife, and best friend at a Toronto Dance Hall.
Merv made his living working in shipping & receiving at Proctor and Gamble, and the Flaherty household would not be complete without samples and P&G advertisements galore.
Merv was a talker, a joker, and a self-proclaimed fashionista. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing floor hockey, skating with his kids, and listening to the Blue Jays on the radio. He always appreciated a well-kept lawn. Merv was rarely seen without his sidekick wife of nearly 55 years, Fran. He was a dedicated Dad to his three kids, and an amazing Papa to his three grandchildren. He could always be counted on whenever he was needed, and always put his family first.
Merv will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Fran, daughters Erinn and Sara (Ryan), son David (Zoe), his grandchildren Callahan, Annabel, and Sullivan. His brother Joe (Pat), and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Sadie (Matt), Jack (Marg), Cecil (Birdie), Ambrose (Marg), Marjorie (Jim) and Dorothy.
As an animal lover and rescuer of many cats and dogs over the years, memorial donations to the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes would be greatly appreciated.
