Obituary For George Carlton and Patricia Ann (nee Shields) Bellamy
(1931/1932 - 2025)
True partners in life, George and his loving wife Ann passed away surrounded by family on February 28th and March 24th, 2025. They were great partners, parents, siblings and friends. They are predeceased by their daughter, Sharanne (Daniel), and survived by their son, David (Jennifer). Greatly missed by their siblings Janet (Terry Millard) and Robert (Florence predeceased), and by their grandchildren (Megan (Stephen), Stephane (Vy), Marc (Kacie), Renee (Robbie), and Cameron) and great-grandchildren (William and baby boy Paquette). George and Ann leave behind many nieces and nephews whom they loved dearly.
George was born in Lindsay Ontario, 1931 to Evelyn and Clifford Bellamy. Growing up with brothers Jack and Robert (Bob) and sister, Janice, George's positive and boisterous attitude served him well as a middle child. He made strong friends from a young age.
He pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, an alma mater of which he was incredibly proud. With business associates Carl Swartz and John Martin, he became the third Partner Mechanical Consultants Western Ltd (“MCW”) in 1966, nurturing its growth and success for several decades. At the time he stepped back from work (in his 80s!) MCW had grown from a small office in Winnipeg and Toronto to a proud Canadian company with a dozen offices across the country.
Ann was born in London Ontario, 1932 to Mildred and Miller Shields, younger sister to Robert (Bob) and older sister to Janet. She passionately pursued her love of art, developing her talent for painting and experimenting with various mediums including collage, watercolour, acrylics, and sculpture. Of note was her solo trip to Japan, where she formally trained in Japanese brush painting and was given the honour of creating a “hanko” or signature stamp present on all her Nihonga and Sumi-e artwork.
Ann and George met in 1950, steadily falling in love and becoming life partners when they married on July 2, 1955. They welcomed their son David, in 1956 and their daughter, Sharanne, three years later in 1959. Ann and George had no bigger source of pride in their lives than their children and took immense pride in watching their growth and accomplishments. They united everyone around them in their value of family and togetherness, embracing and loving the chaos of family living at their cottage in Bobcaygeon, their home, in Toronto, and on multiple vacations in Mexico and Florida. As George would always say, family was nothing short of marvellous.
The family passes their utmost gratitude to the staff of Nurse Next Door, Parkland Retirement Living and Del Manor Etobicoke, as well as personal care workers Sagal, Veerpal, Peace, and Confidence, and Doctors Jimoh, Watson, Marotta, Haq, Rezenznikiewz, who provided loving care and support to George and Ann over the last several years and recent months and days. We are so thankful for your kindness.
A Celebration of Life and reception will be held from 1-3 pm at the Old Mill (21 Old Mill Rd.) in Toronto on Friday, April 25th.
A Funeral service and reception will be held at the Mackey Funeral Home (33 Peel Street, Lindsay) on Saturday, April 26th at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, George and Ann would appreciate donations made to the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre supporting the Peter Cipriano Centre for Seniors Health.
