Obituary For Dorothy Eva Cameron

Dorothy was the daughter of Harry and Laura Western of Eden and Lindsay, Ontario. Pre-deceased by Bernice (Huey), Helen (McInnis), Doreen (Simpson), Jean (Danelko), Marion (Western), Verna (Grills) and sweet granddaughter Heather Rambharack. Dorothy was the proud mother of Linda (Les) Jackson, Bruce (Liz) Cameron, and Judy (Pat) Sweetnam and their families, including six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was happily married for 54 years and is predeceased in 2001 by her husband, Morris.

Dorothy wishes to be remembered by her wonderful friends at Briarwood – her other dear family of the last 26 years. She absolutely loved living in her apartment with all her friends close by to visit, play cards, and especially to enjoy the music of the Briarwood Duo. She is so thankful for the special care received by Donna Carchidi and Jennifer Williams, who kept her living independently on her own terms and in her own home.

Dorothy spent countless hours quilting, sometimes quietly chatting, and other times belly laughing, with her six sisters. The time together resulted in well over a hundred hand-made quilts. She was constantly working, volunteering, sewing, gardening and doing handiwork of many kinds. She loved her home and neighbours on Elgin Street and cottaging on Cope Lake. In earlier years, Dorothy and Morris loved to dance and were found most weekends in dancehalls anywhere from the (Lindsay) Legion to London. In her later years, she was a voracious reader, and amazingly, in her 90’s became an avid texter, internet searcher, family tracker (!), emailer, and Facetime user.

Most of all, we will remember Mom for loving good conversations, being quick with a wink, a ready laugh, bigger hugs, fast games of Euchre, and most of all, loving her kids. We will miss her terribly and, as she taught us, will try to be thankful for all the things that money can’t buy, especially a mother’s love bound up in a million priceless memories. Thanks, Mom.

Visitation will be held at Celebrations, 35 Lindsay Street North on Sunday, May 18 at 1:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. with a time of reception to follow. Interment at Eden Cemetery at a later date. If desired the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, Canadian Cancer Society, Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation or Elder Abuse Prevention Society of Ontario. Donations may be made by cheque through Mackey Funeral Home or online.
