Obituary For Carl Andrew McKean

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Carl Andrew McKean - son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was one of a kind.

Carl was the beloved husband of Joanne, adoring father of Christopher and Stephanie and devoted Papa of Brianna, Natalie, Nathan, Finlay and Raelyn.

He is predeceased by parents Grenville and Noreen, brothers Jim, Wayne, Leon, and Dale and sister Floreen. He will be dearly missed by his brother Bob, brothers-in-law Luciano, Ross and Max, sisters-in-law Anne, Penny, Reta, Mary and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Carl was born June 23, 1959 in Collingwood, Ontario - the youngest of 7. He was quite charming - a rebel without a cause - until he met the love of his life and settled down to raise a family of his own. His children and grandchildren illuminated his entire world and are his greatest legacy. The family cottage was Carl’s happy place—built with so much love and the backdrop of cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who shared them with him.

Carl was an optimist (sometimes to a fault), always looking for the best in every situation and in those around him. He brought light with him which shone on all those he met along his journey. He was a proud jokester and entertained his grandchildren by making up the most ridiculous stories that produced joyful and endless laughter. Joanne always wanted to rename the sitcom, “Everyone Loves Carl”.

He will be fondly remembered for his enthusiasm in starting eight projects at once - often putting off the fine details and final touches -- always with passion and purpose, and adding to his endless collection of measuring tapes and screws because, “You never know when you might need one.”.

We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Carl during his 66 years, among them: See the good in others, remember that humour is the best medicine and always be the first to offer a helping hand.

In celebration of Carl, donations can be made to lend a helping hand and support individuals and families in need in the Lindsay community or you can make a donation to Salvation Army Food Bank (see www.riversidelindsay.com for details).

Honouring Carl’s wishes, no service will be held.

An Ode to the Man, the Myth, the Legend –

My Favourite Uncle Carl!

Wee Carl, born into the great Clan McKean,

Favourite child of loving Gren and Noreen.

With hearts of fire and sprits bright,

They paved the way for this poem’s delight.

Youngest of seven, quite the wild lad,

Young Carl racing through Collingwood, always so rad.

A street racer’s heart, a rebel, no doubt,

But man, he is charming, when he’s out and about!

A troublemaker, yes, but with brains and with flair,

Wears the cheeky old grin like he just doesn’t care.

But then came the beauty, an Italian delight,

She stole his heart – he was hooked at first sight.

They tied the knot, built a life filled with love,

Raised two wonderful kids, who they held nothing above.

Then grandkids arrived, and they light up his days,

He’s now Papa in charge, sharing his kind, loving ways.

With old stories of parties, and nights filled with fun,

His charm’s never dimmed, it’s second to none.

So here’s to the man, the myth, the legend,

The one who stands brave, courageous and tall,

This silly poem was written by your niecy – who loves you to the moon and back, after all!
