Local band rocks for cancer research

Local musicians Jake Norris and the Side Street Band promise a night of great music, dancing and good times on April 26 at the Lindsay Armoury, all for a worthwhile cause.

Organized by the Oakwood Loyal Orange Lodge, this event featuring live music and DJ performances will raise funds for testicular cancer research, a disease that affected an estimated 1,300 Canadian men in 2024, killing an estimated 30, according to the Canadian Cancer Society.

“Testicular cancer is the number one cancer for men under 40,” said Todd Thornbury, master of the Oakwood Loyal Orange Lodge. “We are a fraternal organization looking not only to do charitable work, but charitable work that supports our demographic.”

This is the first fundraiser of this nature in the Lindsay area and Thornbury also hopes the event will bring together old acquaintances from the community in a reunion type atmosphere.

Also contributing to the evening’s musical entertainment is award-winning hip-hop DJ, and local legend, DJ Law.

“This is a great opportunity for a night out with old friends, with a chance to meet new ones,” Thornbury said. “Jake Norris and the Side Street Band have become a Lindsay area favourite with their high energy mix of rock, country and blues, add some late-night hip-hop courtesy of DJ Law, and you’ve got something for everyone.”

Norris shares the stage with guitarist Jeremey VanHalteren, rhythm guitarist and vocalist Rev. Andrew White, bass guitarist Brett McDonnell, and percussionist Jody Anderson. “This is sure to be a fantastic night of music that you won’t want to miss,” said Thornbury. “And you’ll be supporting a very worthwhile cause.”
