Kirkfield fire now contained

The Burnt River fire, involving 27 hectares of forest, is now being classified as under control. This means it has received sufficient suppression action to ensure no further spread of the fire.
The Kirkfield area fire is now classified as being held, meaning that a boundary has been established and it is not likely that the fire will spread past it.
County Road 49 from County Road 121 to Bury’s Green Road is now reopened.
Prospect Rd is closed from south of 1304 Prospect Rd to north of 1375 Prospect Rd. Please continue to avoid this fire area to allow emergency vehicles and personnel to access the area.
The public is asked to avoid the area at this time.
“Our fire service and partners have made tremendous progress under very challenging conditions, and I want to thank them for their dedicated efforts. While these fires continue to require significant resources, we all have a role to play in keeping our community safe,” said Mayor Doug Elmslie in a press release. “Please stay vigilant, follow the fire ban, and practice fire safety so we can build on the success achieved so far.”
Officials remind residents that there is a complete burn ban in effect and there will be zero tolerance for those who don’t comply.
For any burning complaints call 705-324-2191.
