Fleming College’s Bird Conservation Committee invites members of the public to join them for Birds and Brews: A Winter Celebration of Birds, Conservation, and Community.

The free event, being held Thursday, Feb. 5 from Noon to 3 p.m. in Frost Campus’s Auk’s Lodge, blends hand-on activities, live bird presentations, and light-hearted fun in a relaxed indoor setting.

Whether you are a seasoned birder, a curious beginner, an artist, or simply someone who enjoys learning something new, Birds and Brews offers something for everyone.

Event highlights will include presentations on winter finches and other local birds and on how to protect wild birds, as well as an educational “Dead Bird” Display with tips on preventing fatal collisions with windows.

Those who want to do an activity can decorate and take home a nest box, or contribute one for installation on campus.

Just for fun there will be bird trivia contests and “bird call karaoke” (take the stage and try out your best loon, owl, or woodcock call).

Local artists will be on hand to display and sell bird-themed art.

For those who want to brave the cold and venture outside, there will be a guided bird walk and feeder visit led by experienced student naturalists.

Come for an hour or stay for the afternoon!

And if you’re truly in the spirit, come dressed as your favourite bird (feathers optional, realism discouraged.)
