Name: Hilary Martland

Occupation: Virtual Assistant- Hilary Ellen VA

Advocate: Where in Kawarthas Lakes do you live and for how long?

Martland: Woodville, seven years.

Advocate: What do you do for fun and entertainment in Kawartha Lakes?

Martland: I facilitate a local book club that meets at Needful Things once a month. I love reading and sharing thoughts (whether good or bad) on reads with others. I started the book club back in 2018 and we’re still going strong.

Advocate: What would you recommend to someone new to the area to do for fun?

Martland: I would recommend checking out the local restaurants and coffee shops. Lindsay and Kawartha Lakes as a whole have some great places to get some delicious food and drink. We’re lucky to have an eclectic choice when it comes to local eats.

Advocate: When it comes to entertainment - events, music, sports or things to do - what do you think Kawartha Lakes is missing? What do you think would do well here?

Martland: I’d love a local coffee shop that stays open later (something not Tim Hortons) where local small acoustic bands or musicians could play that doesn’t always have to serve alcohol. I love supporting local and think having a venue like that would be good for other clubs, like my book club to meet at as well.
