Globus Theatre presents Fly Me to the Moon

Fly Me to the Moon is a riotous melodrama that follows two community carers whose one fib quickly spirals into a full-on farce. From the same playwright of the acclaimed Stones in His Pockets, Fly Me to the Moon is another unforgettable story containing dark humour and classic Northern Irish wit, showing at Globus Theatre August 5 to 15.

Known for their plays that balance riotous humour with moments of heart and tenderness, Globus Theatre is thrilled to be showcasing Marie Jones’ acclaimed comedy. When their 84-year-old charge dies on pension day, two community carers are faced with a rare temptation to keep the death a secret.  What begins as a seemingly simple scheme unfolds into a touching and hilarious story about friendship, the pain of being overlooked, and the courage to seize an unexpected second chance.

The show stars Melee Hutton and Sarah Evans as Francis and Loretta. Hailing from Northern Ireland, Hutton has appeared on stages across the UK and Canada including The Royal Court, The Royal National Theatre, Sudbury Theatre Company, and Wordsmyth Theatre. Evans has also performed extensively across the UK and Canada, with credits including the Welsh National Theatre, Stratford Festival, Canadian Stage (CanStage), and Theatre Aquarius.

“Marie Jones writes about, ‘two nobodies, just going along their day.’ That single line, in a nutshell, is what grabbed my heart and imagination when I read this play,” explains Evans. “Two nobodies. Two people who have, as it were, been written off. The shenanigans Francis and Loretta get themselves into to get a wee taste of freedom and adventure, leads to a deeper friendship forged through fire.”

This isn’t the first time Evans and Hutton have brought these unforgettable characters to life. The pair first performed the play together with Shillelagh Theatre Company in February 2025, earning praise for their chemistry, comedic timing, and heartfelt performances.

“The reception from the audience in February 2025 in Toronto was electric. We had several people originally from Belfast come to see the show, and they all felt as though they had been transported back home to a world they knew. The dark humour and insane predicaments in which Marie Jones places her characters, is not only funny and moving, but highly relatable. It raises the question, “What would I do if I were faced with these temptations?”
