Obituaries

Passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Monday March 30, 2026. Debbie graduated from Laurentian University, was an avid university volleyball player, she argued before the Supreme Court of Canada concerning the Tainted Blood Inquiry, and later retired from LCVI after many fulfilling years of teaching phys. ed., guidance, and co-op. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years, Paul Pinkney. She is survived by her sister Barbara Shennett (Peter), and pre-deceased by siblings Susan and Bruce Cook. She will be missed by her nieces; Tamara Cook-Davis (Eric), Jennifer Newton (Matt), Stacie Mandzuk, Kathleen Cook, her nephews; Tyson Shennett (Laura), Chad Shennett (Alexandria), and many great-nieces and nephews, especially the new arrival Otis.

A Celebration of Deborah’s Life will take place at Celebrations (35 Lindsay Street North, Lindsay) on Saturday May 16, 2026 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation, or the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family, and can be made by cheque through the funeral home, or online.
