Obituary For David Cunnington

David Cunnington passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born and raised on a farm, Dave developed a deep appreciation for hard work, nature, and the simple joys of life. He carried these values throughout his life, finding joy in the outdoors-whether hunting, fishing, or simply spending time outside. Dave had a natural curiosity and talent for tinkering, always working with his hands and taking pride in fixing and building things. Dave also dedicated 38 years of service as a volunteer firefighter in Oakwood, a role that spoke to his quiet courage, selflessness, and commitment to his community. He took great pride in serving others and was always willing to lend a helping hand when it was needed most. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Janice, who predeceased him in 2020. Their life together was built on love, partnership, and unwavering support, and her loss was deeply felt. Dave will be lovingly remembered by his two sisters, Hazel, and Rosemary; his children, Greg, Darrell (Holly), and Kevin (Krystina); his grandchildren, Chance, Hannah, Haley, Julia, Emma, and Ava; and his great-grandchildren Luka, and Vienna. David took great pride in his family and treasured the time spent with them. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ross Memorial Hospital, both in and out of the ICU, including the nurses on the surgical and palliative care units, Dr. Leal, Jen (his nutritionist), and the team at Kingston General Hospital for their compassionate care and unwavering support over the past six months. Their kindness and the way they treated Dave like family will never be forgotten. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and deep love for those closest to him. Dave’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Dave will be deeply missed, and fondly remembered. A Graveside service will take place at the East Oakwood Cemetery. Details will be announced at a later date on the Mackey Funeral Home website.
