New Canadian Comedy, “The Beaver Club,” Comes to Globus Theatre Sept. 24

Barb Scheffler’s hilarious and empowering story all about female friendship opens at Globus Theatre in Bobcaygeon on Sept. 24. The Beaver Club is a distinctly Canadian story of a friend group on a road trip from Toronto to Dildo, Newfoundland.
The Beaver Club debuted at the Port Stanley Festival Theatre just two years ago in 2023 and received high praise from London Free Press for its captivating blend of heart, humour, and Canadian culture. Globus Theatre is thrilled to be incorporating this show into their 22nd season.
The Beaver Club’s members are four wildly funny women played by Linda Goranson, Anna Silvija Broks, Sarah Quick, and the playwright herself Barb Scheffler.
Starring as Yvette, Goranson is a seasoned actor with a decades long career bringing characters to life both on stage and on screen where she’s shared moments with acting legends Philip Seymour Hoffman, Mickey Rooney, and Donald Sutherland. A Canadian Film Award winner for Best Actress in a Non-Feature, she has been in TV shows such as Transplant and Reacher, starred in The Painted Door which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Live Action Short, and performed in theatres across Canada.
Radiance is played by regular Globus Theatre performer Silvija Broks whose favourite roles with Globus include Where You Are, Looking, Mending Fences, Lunenburg and Sunshine Express.
Playing Karen is Globus’ co-founder and artistic director Quick. She has had a busy season at Globus already, starring as Shirley Valentine in August and in the season-opener Desperate to be Doris.
Acting in her own play for the very first time, Scheffler stars as Eunice. Both a talented playwright and actor, she has performed with several theatre companies including Drayton Festival, The Classic Theatre Festival, Thousand Islands Playhouse and Smile.
“What I love about this play is that it’s funny and moving, but most importantly, it features 4 older female characters who have complex inner lives and real problems. Telling women’s stories has always been an important part of my playwriting, and I’m also proud of the fact that this play is unabashedly Canadian. I hope the audiences who come to see this play have a good laugh, shed a few tears, and can see a little bit of themselves in these four wonderful characters.” said Scheffler in a press release.
