Trefzger: I live in Peterborough, but vacation in the Kawarthas on Balsam Lake

Advocate: What do you do for fun and entertainment in Kawartha Lakes? 

Trefzger: Visiting family in Kawartha Lakes includes shopping on Kent Street in Lindsay, shopping in Bobcaygeon, hitting up a Kawartha Dairy drive thru or window service, and watching the sunset on the shore of Balsam Lake. 

Advocate: What would you recommend to someone new to the area to do for fun? 

Trefzger: Frequenting small businesses on the main streets of local towns and villages helps you get to know community interests, arts and culture, and services really quickly. Kawartha Lakes is filled with shining waters, forest hikes, and serene campfires. Equally, they're filled with local artists and musicians, festivals and farmers markets, and delicious lock side treats! 

Advocate: When it comes to entertainment - events, music, sports or things to do - what do you think Kawartha Lakes is missing? What do you think would do well here? 

Trefzger: Kawartha Lakes has a long settlement history that is important to understand in relation to the agricultural community and the Treaty Rights of local First Nations. As the region is investing in the reconciliation of land and peoples, you can imagine generations of voices building family and sustainability here across the rolling hills. From agricultural fairs to Pride celebrations, indoor - and outdoor -  theatre productions to makerspaces, library networks to live music at restaurants and cafes, this region is all about transitions in nature – including often the weather.
