Urban design award won by city staff member for Logie Park

Logie Park continues to impress. Mayor Andy Letham reported that the Ontario Parks Association has recognized city staffer Jenn Johnson for her role in helping spearhead the innovative park's re-development.

Johnson was feted with an Urban Design Award by the provincial association who look at parks and park design right across Ontario.

The Logie Park redevelopment project began in 2017. What began as a park refresh and a project to preserve close to 500 lilac shrubs turned into one of Kawartha Lakes’ largest redevelopments.

The newly redeveloped Logie Park features:

An inclusive play area designed for all ages featuring, a zip-line, unique climbing structure, a variety of playgrounds with rubberized play surfaces for accessible play and a unique sand play experience for digging and imaginative play
Accessible washroom facility
A splash pad with a unique design in which water is captured in a tank and reused for park irrigation
A new active sports asphalt path network meanders throughout the park and links to The Great Trail (formerly known as the Trans Canada Trail network.)
In the late fall and winter months, the park will feature a refrigerated skating oval to allow for an extended skating season that will be maintained with a rink resurfacing machine
A large Canadian flag garden sitting area
The return of the lilacs to the park. Logie Park will feature detailed lilac varieties and cultivars as well as a collection of dedication lilacs that have been re-planted
Along the shoreline of the Scugog River in the park a waterfront paddle sport dock has been installed and serves as a waterfront lookout point

Key partners in this award winning project include: Nick Carchidi, Excavating Limited, Stewart C McElroy and Associates Inc., Proud Canadian Committee, Lindsay Optimist Club, Kawartha Trans Canada Association, Lilac Gardens of Lindsay Committee and the Parks Advisory Committee.

Letham called it a “development that we can all take pride in.”

Johnson will receive her award in a ceremony to be hosted at the park in the late spring or early summer.
