Pinnguaq Lindsay makerspace programs: New slate of free programming

The Pinnguaq Lindsay Makerspace announcing a full slate of weekly programming starting in the first week of April, available for signup now here. 

They will return to in-person programming to deliver top of class digital skills opportunities with two programs focused on Minecraft, one on Game Design, one one wellness and one on 3D Design. 

“This programming marks our return to what we hope is long-term, in-person programming at the Lindsay Makerspace at 87 Adelaide Street North in Lindsay.” says Ryan Oliver, CEO of the Pinnguaq Association.  “The space was open for six months before it was closed by the pandemic. Our team adapted by running programming online and through hybrid programming, but nothing beats being in person.”

In the last year Pinnguaq has taken over additional space at 87 Adelaide Street N with the intent of growing and making more accessible the existing Makerspace.  

The new programming runs after school, weekly at the Lindsay Makerspace and starts on April 4.

It includes;

• Tinkering with Tinkercad: Solving Real World Problems with 3D Design - Targeted at Age 9-13. Learners will advance their knowledge of 3D modelling through the online web-based tool, Tinkercad.
• Introduction to Game Design- Targeted at Age 12-15. Learners will learn to create their very own video games using “Makecode Arcade”. 
• Minecraft Modders- Targeted at Age 15-17. Learners will create, edit and learn to install mods in Minecraft.  Learning to Code with Minecraft- Targeted at Age 9-13. Using Minecraft Education Edition, learners will explore the building blocks of coding through fun activities, lessons and making. LifeBlox: Wholebody Wellness for Females: Target Age 9-13. In partnership with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, this group will highlight healthy eating, physical activities, mental wellness, healthy relationships and friendships online and in-person, self-esteem, and peer pressure through fun, interactive activities. This program features games, coding, and digital arts activities. All courses are offered for free and signup is limited.  The programming is funded in part through the support of the CanCode program and the division of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
