The Lindsay Chamber of Commerce is hosting a series of workshops on welcoming diversity to Kawartha Lakes. On Jan. 16 the theme is poverty and low income, with facilitator Rachael Nicholls. Nicholls is a sessional faculty member at Trent University, a doctoral candidate at OISE/University of Toronto, and a youth mentor at St. John's Anglican Church. She views this opportunity just as she views her work in education -- it is "not to transfer knowledge but to create the possibilities for the production and construction of knowledge" with the others. Nicholls hopes this will be an opportunity for communal creation, self-discovery, and reflection. She grew up in Lindsay with her parents and two sisters and now resides in Peterborough with Elsa, her English bulldog.
