Ontario’s government is providing funding to support local service delivery in the province’s municipalities. On March 20, 2019, Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing announced a one-time investment for many of Ontario’s small and rural municipalities, including every municipality in Haliburton – Kawartha Lakes – Brock.

Municipalities within Haliburton – Kawartha Lakes - Brock will receive a combined total of $4,912,643 to improve service delivery by finding smarter, more efficient ways to spend money that help those who need it most while respecting taxpayer dollars. The City of Kawartha Lakes and Brock Township will receive $725,000 each, while Cavan Monaghan will receive $586,372. The funding is allocated based upon the number of households in the municipality, and whether the area is urban or rural.

These funds will provide critical support to small and rural municipalities that may have limited capacity to plan, modernize, and improve the way they provide services to their communities. Municipalities will have the ability to decide how to best use these funds to benefit their communities.

“I am pleased that our municipal partners will have the ability to invest these funds where they feel it will have the biggest impact,” said MPP Laurie Scott. “This modernization funding recognizes the unique needs and circumstances of rural communities in our riding and provides them with the support they need to deliver services efficiently and effectively.”

City of Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham said, “By investing this modernization funding into infrastructure and capital projects, the Kawartha Lakes will be able to accelerate growth and continue to make our municipality more efficient.”
