Emma and Claire Wright, 24 and 27, two sisters and Lindsay residents, are heading off to Japan soon to represent Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. A surprise Zoom call today was organized by their mother, Wendy Wright, with over 50 friends, family members, and others who wanted to wish them good luck.
Mike Perry has established the Doug & Mary Perry Higher Education Fund with the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes. Perry is the past president and co-founder of the foundation.
Heaven’s Gait Stable, just north of Cambray, is putting on a rodeo and virtual fundraiser to create a safe haven for victims of trauma. The event will be streamed on Facebook Live on July 3 beginning at 9:30 am.
Susan Taylor’s plea on behalf of the Lindsay Gallery at a 2014 city council meeting was a success. Sort of. Yes, some councillors had balked at giving money to the arts, but they ultimately waived the gallery’s rental fees and provided an emergency grant of $3,300 a month to keep the doors open. “We got what we wanted, but it wasn’t a good business model,” said Taylor, executive director of what is now the Kawartha Art Gallery. “I realized there had to be a better way to do this. It wasn’t a sustainable solution — we’d be back where we started from in three years.”
It’s a grey Thursday afternoon in late April as I sit down to write this column, a few hours after Miller Waste’s chocolate brown and caramel-coloured garbage trucks have made their rounds through Lindsay and other communities across the municipality. Stopping at the foot of driveways and laneways, the orange-clad garbage collectors remove not only clear bags of refuse, but also the contents of our blue boxes.
