Roderick Benns grew up in Lindsay's east ward. In the 1990s he won a first-place national newspaper award through the Canadian Community of Newspapers Association in the category 'Reporter Initiative.' He has interviewed former Prime Ministers of Canada, Cabinet Ministers, Senators, and Mayors across Canada and had written op-eds for the country's major newspapers. Roderick is also the author of several books, including one on Basic Income. A father of two, he returned to his hometown in 2017 to start The Lindsay Advocate magazine and has since grown Fireside Publishing House into a multimedia enterprise.

Lindsay’s Anwen O’Driscoll takes on her most challenging movie role yet

It was at Lindsay Little Theatre where Anwen O’Driscoll got her start in acting. Having a father who was an actor and a mother who was a director and playwright probably helped seal her fate as a thespian. While not everyone in Kawartha Lakes is familiar with O’Driscoll’s rise to fame yet, the 22-year-old actor has been taking on a wide variety of roles.

Benns’ Belief: Time to go electric

Our next car is going to be electric. An EV. Currently, (pun intended) we’re nursing a petrol-sucking, seven-year-old SUV that has traversed highways and back roads from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to subarctic Yukon. (It’s not petrol-sucking any more than the average gas vehicle; I’m just making the case for going greener.)
