United Women Helping Others helps homeless shelter
On Dec 8th, the United Way CKL women’s group, United Women Helping Others (UWHO) awarded A Place Called Home with a grant for $1445.00, an amount that exceeded the agency’s expectations due to the amazing support from the members of UWHO. A Place Called Home provides emergency shelter and outreach services to those experiencing or who are at risk of homelessness in the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton.
A Place Called Home will use these funds to support a special new art project to increase homeless awareness in the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton. Details of this vital and meaningful art project will be released in the New Year.
Jen Lopinski, Fund Development Coordinator at A Place Called Home notes “The United Women’s Helping Others Grant will help our agency increase homeless awareness which will benefit the entire community. There is too much stigma surrounding homelessness and our goal is to improve those perceptions through the expression of art”.
“The members of United Women Helping Others are pleased to support this initiative. Art is a powerful tool for storytelling and promoting awareness. We look forward to seeing the end result”, says Shantal Ingram, Co-Executive Director of United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes.
