Urban design award won by city staff member for Logie Park

Logie Park continues to impress. Mayor Andy Letham reported that the Ontario Parks Association has recognized city staffer Jenn Johnson for her role in helping spearhead the innovative park’s re-development.

Johnson was feted with an Urban Design Award by the provincial association who look at parks and park design right across Ontario.

Expanded city services coming soon as mayor outlines details

Playgrounds will re-open with no restrictions.

Mayor Andy Letham had a lengthy and detailed list of municipal services and facilities that will be ramping up their services over the next two to six weeks.

The city is moving into a “level 3” re-opening on Friday, following the provincial guidelines.

“This re-opening needs to be done properly,” Letham said, “being mindful that the city cannot end the year with the deficit it is currently carrying.”

Discussions about future of local policing have begun

In a far-reaching press scrum, Mayor Andy Letham and CAO Ron Taylor discussed policing in Kawartha Lakes, their hopes concerning the city deficit, information about aquatic programs and their initial impressions of a return to patio season across the city.

In an exchange with reporters, Letham responded to a question about how the George Floyd incident in the U.S. might impact policing locally.

Letham said that the police budget is approved by the Police Services Board, of which he is a member. Meetings have already begun, “and everyone is being open- minded about the future.”
