New directions, great traditions combine at Lindsay Golf and Country Club

There’s a new buzz at the Lindsay Golf and Country Club. That’s what happens when you mix the tried and true – like great golf on a professional-grade course – along with some new blood to shake things up.

General Manager Russ DaSilva says it’s going to be a banner year for the club for a number of reasons. To start, Lindsay native Nicole Haddlesey is events co-ordinator, while Ron Carter, culinary manager, has come on board with a brand new menu for diners.

Summer lunch program fed hundreds of kids across Lindsay

Summer Lunch Program gears up in Lindsay, Fenelon Falls

If it takes a village to raise a child, a town can also come together to help feed kids through the summer month as sometimes kids just need a little bit more.

This is what’s happened in Lindsay this year, where an innovative Summer Outreach Lunch Program pilot, providing healthy bagged lunches to children, was launched.

It was brought to the attention of the Food Security Working Group of Kawartha Lakes Food Coalition that some students in Lindsay get anxious and sad during the summer months about not having enough to eat, especially without school lunch and snack programs in place.

Free lunches for kids for nine weeks as summer pilot begins

It was a great start to the Summer Outreach Lunch Program yesterday, although even higher numbers are expected once the word gets out about available free lunches for kids.

Nearly 20 elementary age school kids showed up at one of the four locations involved in the pilot. Free lunches are served between 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at St. Mary Catholic Elementary School, Queen Victoria School, Housing Help (Lindsay and Glenelg streets), and Kawartha Lakes Food Source on Wednesdays and Fridays during the summer break.
