Strike up the bands

The Kawartha Lakes Concert Band.

On Saturday, June 25, Kawartha Lakes Concert Band will be returning to Cambridge Street United Church for their first performance in over two years. Joining them will be Weston Silver Band, three-time North American Brass Band Champions.

The concert, billed as Band Together: Melodies after the Storm, kicks off at 7 pm, the baton in the hands of Kawartha Lakes Concert Band director David Morrison. The local band’s musical offerings will include Vaughan Williams’ classic Folk Song Suite, selections from Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar, and Ammerland – the piece that earned the band honours in Kiwanis competition.

The second half will be the turn of Weston Silver Band, a Toronto-based group celebrating its hundredth anniversary. Expect virtuosic playing and lots of excitement, according a to a media release.

The finale will feature both bands playing together.

Tickets are $20 and are available from Cathy Allan Ladieswear or can be purchased at the door.

Weston Silver Band director Larry Shield said, “We’ll sell you the whole seat — but you’ll only need the edge.”
