Retired educators donate to area food banks

By Lindsay Advocate

Local teachers from The Kawartha Lakes/Haliburton Retired Teachers of Ontario (R.T.O. District 18) donated $3,500 to area food banks.

The money was divided based on the proportion of membership in each of the two counties, with Kawartha Lakes receiving $2,500 and Haliburton $1,000.

An additional $250 was donated to the Salvation Army in Lindsay toward their food hamper program.

Cheques for both organizations in Lindsay were presented by R.T.O. Goodwill representative, Debbie Peck, and by Ward Levine, treasurer.

The more than 700 members are not only retired teachers, but people from the extended educational community, such as support staff in schools, colleges, and universities, bus drivers, and others.
