Popular local bar ‘The Coach’ under new ownership

By Trevor Hutchinson

Wim Beeekhuis used a recent birthday celebration at the Coach and Horses pub to announce that he has sold the bar to two long-time employees.

Beekhuis — who has operated the venerable Lindsay bar for 15 years, sold the bar to sisters Nicole Rochette and Kim Wagg. Rochette has worked at the bar for 8 years, most recently as manager. Wagg (featured in issue five of the Advocate) has worked at the establishment for over 5 years.

“It was time for me to sell the bar,” said Beekhuis, “but it was important to me that a new owner know the history and sense of community within our existing customer base. Selling to Nicole and Kim was a no-brainer. And they deserved it.”

“We are really excited about this opportunity,” says Wagg. “I worked at this bar because I love the customers and the staff. Owning the bar is such a great opportunity to appreciate it even more.”

“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy a bar with your sister, and that’s pretty much the same thing,” added Rochette.

Located at 16 York St. S.,The Coach, as it is known to its customers, was first opened by the Smith family over 31 years ago. It is open from 11 am- 2 am, 365 days a year. For more information call 705-328-0006 or follow them on Facebook.
