The Peterborough and the Kawarthas Home Builders Association (PKHBA) hosted their annual charity auction in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region (Habitat for Humanity PKR) on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023 which raised a total of $42,377.39, making this the most successful charity auction to date.

The annual charity auction helps support housing initiatives in Peterborough and the Kawarthas by raising funds for PKHBA and Habitat for Humanity PKR.

PKHBA is a non-profit organization that has represented the professional home building industry in Peterborough and the Kawarthas since 1956. It has a mission to facilitate the development of sustainable businesses for our members, advocate for effective government policy, maintain positive consumer experiences, exchange experiences, information, and best practices. Funds raised through the charity auction will help PKHBA achieve this throughout the year.

Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region is a local not-for-profit organization working toward a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The organization mobilizes volunteers and partners to build simple, decent housing to provide working families with access to affordable homeownership. Habitat for Humanity PKR will utilize the funds raised from the charity auction event to construct more safe and affordable housing, providing a solid foundation for local families to build better, healthier, and more financially stable lives.

The success of this event has only been made possible through the generosity of the presenting sponsor, Reliance Home Comfort, along with all other event sponsors, auction donors from the local business community, volunteers, and attendees. Funds will be split evenly, with $21,188.70 going to both PKHBA and Habitat for Humanity PKR.

“We cannot thank our local community enough for supporting this event, and Habitat’s affordable home-building efforts,” says Susan Zambonin, CEO of Habitat for Humanity PKR. “Our local trades, contractors, and businesses have been tremendous supporters in helping Habitat homeowners have a safe and affordable place to call home.”

Rebecca Schillemat, Executive Officer for PKHBA said, “This is a great opportunity for PKHBA members to give back to the community where they live, work and play. We are thrilled with the amazing support our community has shown for all types of housing in Peterborough and the Kawarthas. We’re so thankful for all those who donated, sponsored and attended our annual charity auction last year and can’t wait to see what this year brings.”
