‘Old Victoria County’ close to being sold out

Looking for Old Victoria County, just launched in November of last year by eminent historian Rae Fleming, is already close to being sold out.

The compilation book of 28 historical articles, featuring such content as one room school houses, the Academy Theatre, community festivals, and pharmacies and prohibition, has proved very popular with local residents.

Fleming joined 16 other contributors to make the book a reality, creating a 500-book print run just a few months ago.

“We’ve sold close to $10,000 worth of books, mainly between the launch on Nov. 18 and the Christmas period,” says Fleming.

While sales were slower in January they were still moving, with less than 40 copies in several retail venues, like Kent Bookstore, Lindsay, Sweet Bottom Cafe and Grr8 Finds in Fenelon, and the Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society in Beaverton. In Kinmount, Guy Scott is the retailer.

Once the print run of 500 copies is gone, there will be no more printed, says Fleming.

“However, I am already thinking of a volume two,” he admits. “There are so many untold stories in the old county.”
