Obituary For John Paul McKay

It is with profound sadness that we share news about the passing of John Paul McKay, on Saturday October 25th, 2025 at the age of 72 years. Devoted husband to Jean (nee Monk), and loving father of Cambria McKay (Mary Fehr), and Kelly (Tim Gallant). Fun loving Grampa Paul of Brock and Colton Gallant. Dear brother of Gwen Batterman and Maryanne Bartlett (Gord Mower), and dear brother in law of Dianne (Richard Parker), Vern (Celeste Monk), Brenda Jones and George Bolton (Debbie Aniol) Predeceased by parents Jack and Pearl McKay, and Brother in law Maurice Batterman, and sister in law Joyce Bolton, and was loved by his late parents in law Luella and Arnold Monk. Paul will be greatly missed by his extended family and friends. Paul was a loving and dedicated kind family man. We have so many memories to hold onto, especially spending time at the McKay family farm, where he enjoyed slower moments in the country and the faster paced city living in both Hamilton and Toronto. Paul was known as a dedicated locomotive engineer with Via and CN rail for 45 years. This provided amazing opportunities to travel by rail to the West and East Coasts of Canada, including Quebec City, Ottawa and Montreal. Throughout his life Paul found joy travelling with Jean, sharing so many great times. Paul played hockey as a youth, and later developed a passion for curling, golfing, tai chi, lawn bowling, and always loved coaching Cambria and Kelly in baseball. He attended many music concerts, theatre, and museums, and faithfully played his musical instruments. Paul always had a love for puzzles, good jokes, and writing memories and poems for family gatherings. A dedicated Mason for 47 years. Paul had courage and dignity in facing a rare disease known as Corticolbasal Syndrome (CBS). Our family wishes to thank the staff of Extendicare (Fenelon Court), Fenelon Falls, and Community Care of Kawartha Lakes for all their loving care and support. In keeping with Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday November 15th, from 1 – 4 pm.
