Newcomers welcome at Lindsay Creative Quilters’ Guild

By Lindsay Advocate

Newcomers, whether beginners or experienced, are welcome to join the Lindsay Creative Quilters’ Guild. The guild began about 33 years ago by a number of local women. They would meet at a member’s home in the beginning but the numbers grew so much they had to start meeting in a hall.

All are welcome to attend the meetings, held at Mackey Celebrations at 35 Lindsay St., N. on the second Monday of each month, excluding July and August.

The non profit organization’s majority of work done is for the local charities. Only two years ago the guild raised about $10,000 for Women’s Resources. Some other charities they have supported include Five Counties Christmas Tree Festival and Ross Memorial Hospital.

The guild’s quilt show takes place every other year. This year the show is being held May 24-25 at the Lindsay Curling Club, where about 200 quilts will be on display that were created by members. There will be vendors, door prizes, and a tea room, among other features where attendees can sit, visit and enjoy coffee, tea, sandwiches, and pie.

About 800 people attend from around the area. The price is $6.

The main focus of this year’s show is the Raffle Draw to raise money to give to “Lions Foundation, Autism Assistance Guide Dogs.”
